Pregnancy

During pregnancy your physical and mental energy is spent on preparing for baby, going to appointments, and planning for your birth experience. You are already putting your baby's needs above your own. Don't let your needs go unfulfilled.

How can therapy help?

  • We can discuss your unique risk factors for mental health concerns such as previous mental health diagnoses and treatment, family history, and your current support system.

  • Using Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) I can help you explore and process any feelings you may have about your shifting identify as a mother and what that means to you.

  • Using Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) we can explore any unhelpful thought patterns you may be having that could be leading to overwhelming feelings. Then we'll discuss skills that you can use to break up that pattern and keep you focused on the here and now.

  • We can develop a plan for your postpartum experience including ways to prioritize sleep, communicate you boundaries and needs, and cope with potentially overwhelming emotions once baby arrives.

  • We can discuss mental health warning signs to look out for that may indicate a need for more help.

You've got your birth plan, but do you have a postpartum mental health plan? 1 in 5 moms will experience a perinatal mental health diagnosis such as postpartum depression, anxiety, or obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).
